Job Title: Shipyard Facility & Maintenance Manager
Job Summary: We are seeking a highly experienced Shipyard Facility & Maintenance Manager to lead and oversee all maintenance operations within our shipyard facilities. The ideal candidate will have over two decades of expertise in civil engineering, building projects, fit-outs, project and construction management, client representation, and facilities management. This role requires a proactive leader capable of ensuring operational efficiency, safety, and compliance of all shipyard facilities, while also driving continuous improvement initiatives.
Key Responsibilities:
Maintenance Strategy Development: Develop, implement, and manage a comprehensive maintenance strategy to ensure optimal performance and longevity of shipyard facilities and equipment.
Policy and Procedure Management: Establish and oversee maintenance department policies and procedures, ensuring alignment with organizational goals and regulatory requirements.
Computerized Maintenance Management System (CMMS): Supervise and coordinate the implementation and effective use of a CMMS to streamline maintenance operations and record-keeping.
Equipment and Facility Safety: Ensure all equipment and buildings are safe to use and fit for purpose, adhering to health, safety, environmental, and quality standards.
Maintenance Planning and Scheduling: Plan and schedule all maintenance activities, considering vessel stemming schedules and production work to maximize equipment availability in line with Original Equipment Manufacturer (OEM) guidelines.
Inventory Management: Maintain appropriate inventory levels of parts and materials to support seamless execution of both preventative and planned maintenance activities, establishing multiple supplier options for core equipment spares.
Standardization of Procedures: Develop standardized service and repair procedures for key equipment, including standardized parts lists for planned maintenance activities.
Continuous Improvement: Identify business improvement opportunities and develop, implement, and manage continuous improvement programs to enhance maintenance operations.
Team Leadership and Development: Manage, coach, and develop a high-performing maintenance team that meets agreed objectives and delivers best practice results.
Budget Management: Prepare and manage the annual maintenance budget and forecasts, ensuring cost-effective solutions without compromising quality.
Contractor Management: Prepare scopes of work for contracted maintenance work, conduct technical reviews and assessments of contractors, and manage on-site contractors to ensure compliance with company requirements.
Stakeholder Engagement: Develop and maintain strong relationships with internal and external stakeholders to ensure optimal performance and alignment with organizational objectives.
Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering, Facilities Management, or a related field.
Minimum of 20 years of experience in civil engineering, building projects, fit-outs, project/construction management, and facilities management.
Proven experience in a managerial role within a shipyard or similar industrial environment.
Strong knowledge of maintenance procedures, equipment, and best practices in a shipyard setting.
Excellent leadership and team management skills.
Strong communication and interpersonal abilities, with experience in client relations.
In-depth understanding of safety regulations and compliance requirements in the maritime industry.
Proficiency in budgeting and financial management related to maintenance and facilities operations.
Preferred Qualifications:
Professional certifications in facilities management or project management.
Experience working in international or multicultural environments.
Familiarity with the latest technologies and innovations in shipyard maintenance and facilities management.
Work Environment:
This position operates within a shipyard environment, requiring both office work and on-site supervision. The role may involve exposure to varying weather conditions and requires adherence to strict safety protocols.
