Job Description
The Virtualization team is responsible for technical standards, roadmaps, custom design solutions, and escalated support in the area of virtualization and converged infrastructure.
The team works in close partnership with the Network, Security, Backup, Database, Operating system and Application teams to  support the day to day Operations of the company and also enhance and modernize the overall Data centre Infrastructure.
 
Responsibility
  • Responsible for Architecting, Designing, Provisioning, Installation, Configuration, Operation, and Maintenance of VMware and Cloud infrastructure
  • Responsible to manage virtualization of windows and linux servers using VMware ESX, Xen, KVM, OpenStack or similar hypervisor technology
  •  Responsible for automation, configuration, monitoring, Tuning, processes and procedures for Virtual environment showcasing improvements in terms of Operational efficiency & Fianacial gains
  • Responsible for the Build, configuration and deployment of VMs and templates
  • Responsible for DR/BCP planning, building & testing
  • Responsible for migration from Physical-to-Virtual (P2V), Virtual-to-Virtual (V2V) and Virtual-to-Physical (V2P) of Windows and Linux servers from VMware and legacy hardware
  • Design & Configure VMware Enterprise Container Infrastructure
  • Provide solutions and use cases to Configure and maintain vSAN within the environment
  • Responsible for host configuration which includes:  Startup Profile, Storage configuration, Network configuration and Security settings
  • Must be able to demonstrate strategic planning experience and have a deep understanding of enterprise deployment strategies of VMware and it’s relevant technologies
  • Troubleshoot problems/issues related to Virtual Environment and follow escalation guidelines to resolve problems/issues
  • Perform design and technical guidance for complex projects
  • Adhere and execute as per the Change Management Process
  • Create technical documentation and conduct technical sessions related to Virtualization platform
  • Experience in interacting and using VMware APIs
  • Manage and control business integration with VMware tools, products and components
  • Continuous product development of VMware tools, systems and products, including functional improvements, feature releases and documentation updates
  • Ability to document solutions and designs as well as communicate to a broader audience
  • Ability to manage and prioritize multiple Projects & Day to Day Operations
  • Responsible to provide ideas and solutions for Projects and Day to Day Operations
 
Qualification, Experience & Technical Skillset
  • 7+ years of Experience in Virtualization platform mainly on VMware
  • 2+ years of Experience on Cloud Management Platform (vCD)
  • Full functional knowledge of virtualization concepts, design and developments
  • VMware certification not mandatory but would be a plus
  • Knowledge & hands on experience on Networking devices and concepts
  • Hardware knowledge in CISCO UCSM, CISCO HX, HP blade and HP rack servers.
  • Knowledge, understanding and hands on experience of other VMware technologies such as vROPS, VRO\VRA, NSX, vSAN, SRM
  • Experience and understanding of VMware product lifecycle management
  • Good knowledge in configuring and maintaining High availability /VCS, DRS, Fault Tolerance, Datastore clustering
  • General understanding and hands on experience with OS platforms, Databases, Storage & Backup Solutions
  • Experience in working on multiple operating systems – Windows, LINUX, CentOS
  • Experience & Knowledge in Virtual Environment Performance Monitoring & Tuning
  • Knowledge & Experience in Citrix solutions will be a plus
  • Hands on experience in patch management life cycle
  • General understanding on backup solutions such as Veeam, EMC Networker, Avamar backup solutions
  • Experience in Migration/Upgrade of Windows and VMware infrastructure
  • Good Knowledge & Troubleshooting Skills in Microsoft Windows OS, Active Directory, DNS, DHCP and other core technologies
  • Should be able to  standardize, document and update Operational process from time to time
  • Strong understanding of project management methodologies and process
  • Excellent analytical skills and ability to apply them towards reviewing  the existing environment
